Anyone notice it took me more than a week to get around to responding to your comments on my last post? That’s right, I am the sort of blogger who dares to unplug for days on end and then ever so slowly dips her toes back into it because man, being unplugged and avoiding the noise of the internet is delightful.

And, we’re back.
In what feels like a pretty familiar theme around here, we’ve once again returned from a few days away. This time around, it was our annual trip to Smith Mountain Lake with Will & Mollie.
The great hand pie fiasco
I told Edie I’d make her a cherry pie with fresh cherries. I’ve long had the itch to make hand pies and thought this was the perfect opportunity to have at it. I googled a few recipes, but figured, hey, it’s pie that fits in your hand. I know how to make pie, so I will just use my regular crust recipe and make them hand sized. Continue reading
And it’s a wrap.
A few years ago, a friend once remarked that you could be a parent the last week of school or you could work, but you could not be a working parent that week. The number of activities that seem to require your presence do not leave much time to do anything but be a parent. Here, we had: Continue reading
Well hello there!
It’s been a while, hasn’t it? True to form, May has kicked my ass on every level imaginable once again this year. How is it Memorial Day weekend already? Other nuggets of happy this week? Continue reading
The internet effect.
The other morning, I walked into the downstairs bathroom that is pretty much the domain of Edie. There I noticed peeking behind the shower curtain, a Hello Kitty bath toy perched on the spout of the tub. I wanted to capture it in a still life – my first thought was I admit, to post it on instagram, like the purple duckie shot from a few weeks ago. Only unlike the purple duckie on top of the soap dish, any shot I attempted to get of Hello Kitty seemed to spotlight the funk of the tub. Continue reading
That escalated quickly.
Not being in elementary school doesn’t mean an end to the Valentine’s Day exchange. Instead of hand crafting a Valentine for every classmate, a plan was hatched with her lunch table to exchange treats in honor of the day. She had her heart set on sharing cupcakes, which I willingly agreed to help with while tuning out the part about a DIY cupcake holder idea she’d gotten from Pinterest in which to present them. The best assistant.
The students that took my inaugural pie class at Betty’s building last week got a treat in the shape of a guest instructor. Continue reading
