This is one of those family favorite recipes that not only has been renamed from its original (and rather staid), “Creamy Spinach Chicken Tortellini Soup” but has also been completely reworked. Starting out as a quick weeknight meal that uses a number of convenience items like canned soup, at some point I had the realization it wasn’t that much harder to cook from scratch – just a little bit of chopping involved really. And because we lean more vegetarian, I started going with cream of mushroom instead of cream of chicken soup. The end result? Still really good while remaining an easy weeknight dinner. In which we shoot.
Edie learned to shoot a rifle at summer camp. Not only is it one of her favorite camp activities, she has been commended on it in the closing ceremonies several times. The girls don’t shoot skeet like the boys camp does though – only stationary targets. Of course, this made her very interested in shooting skeet, because as we all know, anything boys can do, girls can do better.
How is it almost mid-August already?

Summer has been flying by. I had a long list of things I wanted to accomplish while Edie was at camp for three weeks, which completely wilted in that heat wave we had. It was all I could do to walk the dog in that 100+ degree weather some days. Continue reading
Summer adventures.
Edie and I took a quick road trip the other day – she chose to knock out next year’s PE requirement during a summer session, which put a bit of a damper on our usual June roadtrip plans. We’ve been a bit more grounded and structured than I care to be during the summer, but such is life.

Lazy, hazy days are here.

It’s officially summer. The calendar reads June, the heat and humidity have arrived and most importantly, school is out. Continue reading
Three is my favorite.
On a recent visit with my friend Walker, he accompanied me on a trip to the nearby Urbanna Market to pick up some essentials. There were of course, certain conditions for this excursion laid down by Walker- one, he was going to ride his bike and two, I was going to buy him cotton candy. Done and done.

“Fetch” is finally happening.
Friday afternoon, ten of Edie’s girlfriends came home on the bus with her to attend her birthday party, which had been postponed from last Saturday afternoon, due to the weather. Unfortunately, the change meant a few friends couldn’t make it, as neither could her father. That left me solo, refereeing eleven teen girls. Continue reading
Birthday Flair for my girl.
One of the items Edie had on her Christmas handmade wish list was her very own personal ‘flair’. That’s our name for the pennant flag garlands I like to make – ‘flair’. I’ve made them for various holiday events – there’s a Halloween one (pirate skull & crossbones and solid black), a Fourth of July one (made out of a dress I made myself in college from fabric I found that reminded me of the old Love American Style logo) and just a fun little party themed one with florals, more of the pirate skull and crossbones and silver lame.

This weekend’s adventures.

Saturday afternoon in the back yard.
This past Saturday was far different than the previous one, although I can report the close to two feet of snow we got over the weekend effectively dealt with all the goat manure stuck to my wellies from the adventures of that day. So there’s that. Continue reading
They did.
New Years Day found us getting up bright and early to drive to Baltimore for a wedding we’d been looking forward to for some time – my cousin Molly and her beau Patrick. Edie was to do a reading in the wedding, so the idea was we’d leave early to allow time to settle in where we were staying before getting cleaned up and heading to rehearsal. Continue reading
