Late last summer, I stumbled across this lamp on a walk around the block.
Abandoned by the curb, it had a broken lampshade perched on top. Recognizing mid-century modern gold, I quickly grabbed it, ditching the broken shade and brought it home. Pat rewired it, I found a burlap shade at the Habitat store, that while not ideal, was $2 and so therefore will work for the time being. Continue reading

My last post was on the gift of a citron melon. I had cut into it to determine exactly what it was, so the clock was ticking in terms of me figuring out exactly what I was going to do with it. Uncut, the melon would have lasted months properly stored – similar to winter squash – but because I had cut into it, I needed to use it up and quickly.
The first week of camp has gone quietly here at the homestead. While I’ve yet to wade into the princess lair for the annual “she won’t miss it” purge, I have done some reorganizing. Continue reading

I have this fun scarf I knit myself a few years ago that never fails to get compliments.
A few of you who sat in my early canning classes this season were so knocked out by the sample of my pickled peaches that you had to go home, make them and blog about it. Which I think is actually way cool, but everyone along the way has mentioned how much work peaches are.
After fourteen years of being put off and a month of living in a mess, the dining room is DONE.
Alright, so there are still some little details to be addressed, like painting the radiator, swapping out the outlets (as recommended by the inspection when we bought the house), replacing the outlet covers and finishing the the french doors. But these are things that can happen with the room back in use. Continue reading
