There was this music festival down the road in Nelson County called Lockn’ this past weekend. Across the street from where the festival is held is a church, Trinity Episcopal. A small but rather sweet church, they host Sober Lockn’ as well as Waterlockn‘, embracing the festival as their neighbor. Pat’s employer, James River Association, was assisting with Waterlockn’, which offered rides to a private, local swimming hole on the Tye River, just a few minutes away from the festival site, with proceeds benefitting Kid Care. (The Tye is a tributary of the James River.) Continue reading
Category: another day in the life
In the groove.
It’s been the first full week of school, which means the return of daily structure and routine. I know it’s good to have, I know Edie craves it, but after a summer of no structure, not only does it seem slightly overrated, it’s also slightly shocking to acclimate to. At least it is for me. The Dog Days of Summer

Wines I drank: Summer Camp Edition
On our way to drop Edie off at camp yesterday, we discovered a new winery literally next door. Of course we stopped in, because after dropping one’s only child off for the next three weeks, a drink is in order. Continue reading
And, we’re back.
In what feels like a pretty familiar theme around here, we’ve once again returned from a few days away. This time around, it was our annual trip to Smith Mountain Lake with Will & Mollie.
The great hand pie fiasco
I told Edie I’d make her a cherry pie with fresh cherries. I’ve long had the itch to make hand pies and thought this was the perfect opportunity to have at it. I googled a few recipes, but figured, hey, it’s pie that fits in your hand. I know how to make pie, so I will just use my regular crust recipe and make them hand sized. Continue reading
Oysterfest in July
And it’s a wrap.
A few years ago, a friend once remarked that you could be a parent the last week of school or you could work, but you could not be a working parent that week. The number of activities that seem to require your presence do not leave much time to do anything but be a parent. Here, we had: Continue reading
